How To Tell If Cannabis in Bangkok Is Clean: A 5-Point Check

Bangkok has thousands of dispensaries and the quality range is enormous. You cannot lab-test flower at the counter, but you can run a five-point check in about two minutes that filters out most of the bad stuff. Here it is.

The short answer

Clean flower smells alive rather than like hay, has visible frosty trichomes, comes with a certificate of analysis the staff can show you, has a known harvest date, and was slow-dried and cured. If a shop cannot answer those five things, buy somewhere else.

1. Smell it

Ask to open the jar. Good flower smells loud and specific — citrus, fuel, pine, sweet cream, pepper. Bad signs:

• Hay or fresh-cut grass: dried too fast and too hot, terpenes gone
• Damp basement or ammonia: mould, or it was jarred before it was dry
• No smell at all: old stock, or it was blasted with heat

2. Look at the trichomes

Use your phone camera zoom or the shop's loupe. You want a visible coat of resin heads across the bud and sugar leaf. Powdery white patches sitting flat on the leaf surface are not trichomes — that is powdery mildew, and it is common in Thai humidity.

Also look at the bud structure: nothing crushed flat, no seeds, no excessive brown pistils throughout.

3. Ask for the COA

The certificate of analysis is the only real proof. It lists cannabinoid content and, more importantly, screening for pesticides, heavy metals and microbial contamination.

A serious dispensary hands it over without hesitation, per batch. Vague answers — "it is all tested", "the supplier has it", "we can send it later" — mean nobody in the building has seen a lab report.

4. Ask the harvest date

Cannabis is a fresh product. Properly stored flower holds well for months, but a shop that cannot tell you when a batch was harvested is a shop that does not know where it came from. Anyone growing their own can answer instantly.

5. Ask how it was dried and cured

The question most people never ask, and the one that separates craft from commodity. You want to hear a slow dry at controlled temperature and humidity over roughly a week or more, followed by a cure in sealed containers.

If the answer is a shrug, the flower was almost certainly rushed to shelf.

Red flags that end the conversation

• No licence displayed
• Nobody can produce a lab report for anything
• Pre-ground flower sold loose with no batch information
• Prices that look impossible compared to everything around them
• Staff who cannot name the strain or its grower
