A Traveller's Guide to Legal and Compliance Cannabis in Thailand
What is actually legal, what dispensaries must show you, and how to stay on the right side of the rules during your trip.
Thailand's cannabis framework has matured fast, and the practical rules for visitors are simpler than the headlines suggest. Licensed dispensaries operate legally, must display their licence, and must be able to show lab results for what they sell.
What a compliant shop looks like: a visible licence on the wall, staff over 20, no sales to under-20s or to pregnant customers, no consumption on the street, and a certificate of analysis available for every batch on the shelf.
Ask for the COA. A serious dispensary will hand it over without hesitation — it lists cannabinoid content plus screening for pesticides, heavy metals and microbials. If nobody can produce one, walk out.
Consumption is a private matter. Smoking in public spaces is not permitted, so plan around licensed lounges and private accommodation, and never travel across borders with product — export requires a licence and paperwork that individuals do not hold.
